The Advantages of A Weekend Face Lift

America is a youth obsessed nation. It’s no wonder that many people choose cosmetic surgery as a way of combating the visible signs of age like crows feet, wrinkles, and so on. One way that people choose to combat aging is with weekend face lifts – so called because they can be done over a weekend.

The mini face lift does concern a number of people, but the lure of having a younger face in the course of a weekend is a lure that not many can refuse. Normally, as someone gets older, her skin will go through natural aging related changes The rate at which these changes occur depend on a number of things – genes, life style, diet, and other variables. The skin covering face muscles become more slack due to the loss of fatty tissue between the skin and muscle. The skin becomes dried out and  less elastic, less supple. And the more time she has spent in the sun, the faster these changes occur.

You can tell when your face begins to lose the elasticity in that it starts to sag. This is one thing that a weekend face lift is really good at – tightening the facial muscles. But it is helpful if your surgeon is aware of the new cosmetic surgery techniques that center on re-positioning the underlying fat layers of the skin to give the patient’s face a more natural and less “pulled back” look. Re-positioning will also cut down on the amount of facial stress caused by the newly tightend skin thus helping the weekend face lift to last longer.

Before your weekend surgery, you’ll have to perform certain things in preparation. For example, if you are taking medicine, depending on the specific medication, you will probably have to stop taking them a week or two prior to the surgery. Or, if you smoke, the surgeon will most likely ask that you stop smoking for a couple of weeks. And if you routinely take herbs, vitamins – since some of them have an effect on blood flow, you may be asked to refrain from taking them until after the surgery.

It’s unusual that a weekend face lift would cause problems, but everyone’s body reacts differently to surgery. For example, are you a quick healer? Do you have a disease, such as diabetes which might cause the healing to occur more slowly? Do you have any degree of facial bone loss which might limit the full effect of the weekend face lift? But normally, if everything goes well, you should be able to resume your normal daily routine within the first week. By the end of six months, the scarring from the stitching has normally disappeared or become only slightly noticeable.

Doctors experience in the weekend face has evolved over the years. As new techniques were invented, surgeons became better at making these weekend face lifts look more natural. Mainly this is due to the fact that there’s less cutting of the face, thus leaving the face to look more natural. If your skin has a lot of slack you may be more of a candidate for full face lift instead of a weekend face lift.

Technically a face lift can be performed on anyone, but the best results are obtained where the patient still has a certain degree of elasticity in her skin. It’s also important that the bone structure still be strong.
